How to embed a shoppable content wall on Shopify

A step-by-step guide to putting rights-cleared creator content on your Shopify store: importing products, building and tagging a wall, adding it to a page or product template, publishing, and connecting tracking.

This guide shows how to put a shoppable content wall on a Shopify store with cyrqle: a block of creator content where every tile links to the products in it. You can place it on the homepage, a landing page or the product page itself.

Allow about an hour for the first wall, most of it spent on curation and tagging.

Before you start

You need:

  • A cyrqle brand or agency workspace, with editor access.
  • Rights-cleared content. A wall only shows posts your brand holds an active licence for. That means creator content from signed campaigns, or UGC cleared through a rights request. See how to request content rights.
  • Access to your Shopify admin, and permission to edit the theme.

Check your plan's wall allowance before you start. Walls cannot be deleted, so name and plan your first one carefully.

Step 1: Import your products

To make a wall shoppable you need your products in cyrqle.

  1. In Shopify admin, open Products and click Export. Choose all products, or the collections you plan to feature.
  2. In cyrqle, open Products under Work and click import from Shopify CSV.
  3. Upload the file (up to 25 MB) and check the preview.
  4. Set the currency for the file and run the import.

cyrqle matches products by handle, so re-importing later updates existing products instead of creating duplicates. Product images are copied to cyrqle's storage so tiles keep working if a Shopify image URL changes.

Two things to know:

  • There is no live sync. If you change a price or add a product in Shopify, re-import the CSV.
  • Every product needs a product page URL. It is what a tagged tile links to. Check the URLs tab on a few products after import.

For large catalogues, split the export into several smaller files.

Step 2: Create the wall and choose sources

  1. In cyrqle, click Content walls, then New wall.
  2. Name the wall, for example "Summer homepage" or "Running PDP".
  3. Tick the sources: Creator Generated Content (from campaigns), UGC (from collectors), or both.
  4. Narrow each source to the campaigns or collectors you want.
  5. Read the counters: total posts in scope and how many are rights-cleared.
  6. Click continue. Saving this step creates the wall.

Step 3: Curate

In the curation step, decide what visitors see first.

  • Pin your strongest post so it renders first.
  • Highlight a post to show it at double size in the bento layout.
  • Hide anything off-brand or out of season.

Filter the grid by Pending rights to see posts still waiting for a licence, and by Untagged to see posts with no product yet.

Step 4: Tag products on posts

This is what makes the wall shoppable.

  1. Click Tag products on a post.
  2. Search by title, SKU or vendor. The search shows active products by default; change the status filter if your products are drafts.
  3. Click Tag, and optionally pick a variant.
  4. Optionally click add pin, then click the spot in the image where the product appears.

For many posts, use Rapid tag: press 1 to 5 to tag a suggested product, D to skip and J or K to move.

Then define filter tags (the chips visitors click at the top of the wall), such as "Running", "Training", "Lifestyle". cyrqle can suggest groupings for you.

Step 5: Pick the wall type and style

On the Install step, pick a wall type:

Wall typeWhat it rendersUse it on
Content wallA shoppable hero post with a get-the-look railLanding and campaign pages, the homepage
Social wallA uniform grid of postsAny page that needs social proof
Product pageA product hero with a carousel of looks for one productProduct pages

Then set the accent colour, background, layout (grid, masonry, carousel or bento), aspect ratio, columns, gap, corner radius, number of posts, and whether to show captions and handles. The preview updates as you go. A content wall needs a featured post with a tagged product.

Step 6: Add the snippet to your Shopify theme

Click Copy snippet. Your style settings travel with the snippet as attributes you can edit later.

On the homepage or a landing page

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store, then Themes, then Customize.
  2. Open the page template you want, for example the homepage or a custom page template.
  3. Click Add section and choose Custom Liquid.
  4. Paste the snippet into the section and position it on the page.
  5. Save.

On product pages

  1. Use a Product page wall and enter the product handle it should show.
  2. In the theme editor, open the Product page template.
  3. Add a Custom Liquid block or section near the product information and paste the snippet.
  4. Save.

The snippet loads a small script first and only loads the wall renderer on pages that contain a wall, so it adds little weight to the rest of your store.

Step 7: Publish

A new wall is a draft, and a draft shows nothing on your store. Publishing is not part of the setup steps:

  1. Go back to the Content walls list and open the wall.
  2. Check the status badge in the header.
  3. Click Publish.

The wall starts serving within a few minutes, because the public feed is cached briefly. To take it down later, click Pause.

Step 8: Connect tracking

To measure product clicks and attributed sales, connect your store under Integrations in workspace settings. On Shopify the setup is:

  1. Create the Shopify integration and share your myshopify domain with the cyrqle team when prompted.
  2. Install the tracking snippet in your theme and add the cyrqle Custom Pixel under Settings, then Customer events.
  3. Under Settings, then Notifications, then Webhooks, add webhooks for order creation, order payment and refund creation, pointing at the URL cyrqle shows. Paste Shopify's signing secret into cyrqle.
  4. Optionally add an Admin API token with the write_discounts scope so cyrqle can create the discounts behind creator promo codes.
  5. Place a test order through a creator link and check that the order counter moves.

Setup is a manual custom-app configuration today, not a one-click app install.

Step 9: Check the analytics

After a week or two, open the wall's Analytics step. Look at sessions and impressions, card clicks and outbound clicks, and product click-through. The Products view lists popular posts with no product tagged: tag them. Our post on measuring on-site UGC impact explains how to read these numbers.

Troubleshooting

  • The wall is blank on the store. It is probably still a draft. Open it from the Content walls list and click Publish.
  • Fewer posts than expected. Only rights-cleared posts render. Check the Pending rights filter.
  • A post disappeared. Its licence expired or the creator withdrew. Archived products also disappear from walls.
  • The featured-post picker is empty. Only posts with a tagged product can be featured. Tag one first.
  • Analytics read zero. Ad blockers stop browser-side analytics. Check the wall on a clean browser.

FAQ

Which Shopify themes does the wall work with?

Any theme that lets you add a Custom Liquid section or block, which includes most Online Store 2.0 themes. On older themes, paste the snippet into the relevant template file instead.

Can I show different walls on different product pages?

Yes. A product page wall is tied to the product handle you enter. Create walls for the products where you have content.

Do I need to allowlist my domain for the wall?

No. Walls are served to any site. The storefront address list in Integrations is for commerce tracking.

Can I build my own design instead of using the snippet?

Yes. Each wall has a JSON feed. Copy the feed URL from the Install step and render the content in your own theme code.
